Yew Roots
Yew Roots
I was attracted by the wonderful sculptural form, texture and colour of the roots of this fallen Yew Tree against the backdrop of standing ancient Yew trees. These trees at Kingley Vale National Natural Reserve are more than five hundred years old, among the oldest living in Britain. I am fascinated by the processes of life, death and decay exhibited by such old trees. Fallen trees continue to have a life supporting many other organisms; plants, insects, birds and mammals long after they have tumbled.
