Is there anything or anywhere more uplifting than an ancient oak woodland in the first flush of spring? I am particularly inspired by places where trees are allowed to grow, tumble and fall, decay and decompose, contrasting with the vibrant growth of a rich spring flora. Ancient woodlands are truly precious and priceless. I am comforted to be reminded of the intrinsic natural beauty of such places which have their own rhythms and tunes, which play out across the days, weeks, months and years. As each season passes I retain a memory of the past and a vision of future treasures that will come again.
