Caen Hill Locks September Sunrise
Caen Hill Locks September Sunrise
In September the rising sun aligns with the top of the remarkable Caen Hill Lock flight on the Kennet and Avon Canal at Devizes. The flight takes a day to navigate rising over two hundred feet over two miles. During favourable calm overnight conditions mist forms in the locks and the adjacent ponds. As the air temperature rises, mists drift and swirl upwards and are dramatically backlit by the rising sun as it breaks the horizon at the top of the lock flight.
