I’ve been imagining this scene ever since I discovered this viewpoint. I knew that this lovely Silver birch tree would be backlit against the darker woodland behind, with the sun rising over a low ridge to the south. I just needed to predict a hoar frost, the result of the presence of freezing fog clearing to reveal the scene. Conditions conspired as favourable in January 2020 and the magical silver outline of the delicate birch branches and twigs was revealed in all its splendour. Such conditions are rare in southern England and there is no guarantee they will occur in any given year. I love nothing more than the anticipation and development of a vision and natures ultimate revelation.
