Avebury Stone Circle December Sunrise
Avebury Stone Circle is the largest Neolithic Stone Circle in Britain. It sits within the huge circular Henge comprising a deep ditch and bank structure. It is part of the wider Stone Henge and Avebury World Heritage site, which comprises a set of remarkable series of Neolithic and Bronze Age ceremonial sites across a wide landscape. Here approaching the winter solstice (17th December) the rising sun in the east lights the sky providing a dramatic backdrop to the magnificent Sarsen stone megaliths.
